Im doing some tests with Vray fur & have got it looking fantastic. Is it possible to drive direction by UV maps? Im finding it hard to get it to follow the contour of my model. Ive tried maya hair & rendering with vray but Cant get it looking that good. As i say, got vray fur looking bang on, just need to try & get it to do what i want!

You can use the bend direction and initial direciton texture slots to change the orientation of the strands; these are more or less like normal maps, relative to a specified UV set (the "UV Bases Set" one).

im trying that, I have just got a cylinder & applied a bend deformer. I've been putting a ramp into the initial direction slot & changing colours to see if I get different results but none seem to make it go straight down the tube. But it seems to twist itself around the tube( uv's are laid out correctly)

In particular, if you want the fur to follow the "U" direction of the surface, set the gravity to 0.0, assign a checker texture to the "Bend direction" texture with both colors set to RGB 0, 0.5, 1.0 (or 0, 128, 255).

            Best regards,

              For the "V" direction, set the colors to RGB 0.5, 0.0, 1.0 (or 128, 0, 255).

Here are some more examples; the color values are in the file names (e.g. _05_00_10 is RGB 0.5, 0.0, 1.0).

                    ok, cool. Thanks

Do you know of any of your customers who are using the fur in production?

I know some people have used it, but not much more beyond that.

would it be possible to request that we be able to add multiple fur attributes to a single mesh? is that possible?

There shouldn't be problems to do this even now.

It works for me - for the attached image I added two V-Ray fur properties to the same object.
