  • How open in Vray to develop ?

    Hi all,

I'm hoping there are some coders/developers out there, obviously including the chaos group team, that could hopefully explain to a layman, how easy/open is the Vray architecture to developing custom features.

If you could include comparisons to Mental Ray and how you would develop for that program would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading and any help, advice or points in the right direction would be great.

    Will.

It depends on what features you need to implement. V-Ray as a renderer is very open and allows you to do lots of things, from your own lights, materials, textures and geometric objects, to your own GI algorithms and raytrace acceleration structures. The V-Ray translator from Maya to the internal V-Ray scene representation is not that accessible at the moment, although this is changing for future releases.

    Best regards,
    Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.
