  • How to render only 1 render pass?

Say I want to only render out a multiMatte, or a zDepth in my scene... Is there a way to tell Vray to only render out 1 specific pass and not the beauty and all the other render passes?

With vray, all of the render elements are pulled from the calculations of the main render for efficiency reasons, unfortunately it means if you want to get an element you're looking at a full re-render. For example if you wanted only a reflection element, then for that to be accurate, then the reflection has to be of a scene with full lighting, shadowing, motion blur and so on.

If it's only something small like a z-depth or a multimatte that isn't reliant on the main lighting / shading of the scene, I personally use the vray override material to make everything flat black / white and use the global switches to knock off gi, lights and shadows so that the calculations are brought down to the bare minimum that the matte or zdepth element needs to be correct.
