  • Object ID

How do I render out an object ID pass so Objects in the scene is colored differently for compositing ? There is no object ID renderpass only Material ID and Render ID

  • #2
One way to do it would be to use the MultiMatte render element.

    Best regards,

Not sure if this is fixed, but if you have object ID's attached to Groups or Objects then add a VrayObject Property, the Vray Object Property will override the Object ID's and you won't get anything rendering. You will want to turn that off on the Vray Object Property node if it's being used.

this is fixed since at least 2 months....you can disable the "override object ID" in the VOP.

Why disable it? Why would adding a VOP turn Override object to 0 and set it on? Was that a request from someone?

i think noone requested it, but the developers simply thought it would be a good default behaviour which it isn't....

maybe we hereby request the option "Override Object ID" to be OFF by default in VOPs...

            cheers

Changing the default value will brake the old scenes... Maya don't persist an attribute if it was not changed. So all scenes which were relying on the VOP override will no work any more.

Who here uses VOP object ID over-rides?

I think Vray 2.0 release should have that change in it to be honest. Can we have an Official forum vote?

I use it! Often it helps to keep things organized. But there's no need for a default. But on the other hand backward compatibillity is really important to me, so it should stay the way it is.

We have used them a very few times only and we also manage Vray builds on a per project base...so if a new build has that attribute OFF by default it would be no problem for us. We would still render older projects with their specific vray build.

+1 from me for changing the default of the VOP
