  • half float rendre flag

    Hi,
I normally render via maya batch with the flag -im exr to get exr's, how do i get a 16bit image format ? -im tiff just gives me an 8 bit tiff.

    thanks

Isn't the exr format set to 16bit halffloat by default? So that is what you should get if you just render.

I think, you should set it first in your vray common tab to 32bit (yes its by default set to 16bit), save the scene and then render and you should get it in 32bit, as pechart said

      Cheers!

my exr's come out as 32 bit by default, even though my image format options say 16 bit. i am rendering my images from the command shell window with maya closed. i want a 16 bit format not a 32

Which program says that they are 32bit? Maybe your vwiewing application just thinks they are, beacause they are float?

Can you try a newer build? Works fine for me on a simple test. Also, how do you check if the file is 16- or 32-bit?

            Best regards,

Does PhotoShop support 16-bit floating point images at all? I use the exrheader tool to check the number of bits and all seems correct. Also checked with the 3ds Max OpenEXR loader, just in case, again everything is as expected.

                Best regards,

If I remember correctly Ps always reads 16 exr as 32bit float... ( PS CS3 at least..

Yepp, and so does AE. You always have to work in an 32bit project to make floats accsessible. 16bit is only integer there.
