  • texture filtering control, where?

    Hi,

In MR for Maya there is an elliptical filter (enabled by using mipmap as the filter type) to sharpen the texture where needed. Is there a similar feature in VRay? Or, it's better to turn off all texture filtering?

    Thanks,
    Jason

There is a global texture filtering multiplier in the "Misc" section of the V-Ray settings; the default value is 1.0, but you can reduce it to get sharper renders. It is not a very good idea to turn off filtering altogether.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      Thanks, vlado.

So, it's better off using one of the filter type in the file node and then control the filter scale to sharpen renders either individually (in the file node, Effects > Filter) or globally as you mentioned. Yes?

What type of filter would you recommend if all my textures are converted to tiled EXR via the new Img2tiledexr tool? or it depends?

For tiled EXR it would be best to just keep it to mip-map filtering. The Effects > Filter value is currently ignored (I've made a note to implement it - it should be very simple), so the global multiplier for the moment is the only option.

Thank you, Vlado. I'll try the mip-map filtering with the global scale setting.
