    Is there a way to render just a certain element on a RenderLayer i.e. Specular w/o calculating the beauty?

    workarounds maybe?

    What I've been doing to get quick ZDepth passes or Object IDs rendered, is assign a black lightmaterial.
    Almost renderman speeds on the arbitrary passes this way.

    Of course its not possible to render spec, dif, GI, etc passes using this trick

      The renderelements are pulled from the beauty, so there's no way to disable the calculation. I suggest detaching any secondaries (as depth, velocity) from the main beauty to a seperate layer.
