  • RT - GPU recommendations?

I'm using the interactive RT rendering on a dual, quad core, xeon system. I have a Nvidia QuadroFX 3500 video card. The RT - CPU rendering is faster then the RT - OpenCL rendering on this machine.

Is the QuadroFX 3500 such an old card that you don't get any GPU rendering benefits?

What video card would anyone suggest for excellent GPU performance?

The Quadro FX series are not fermi cards. So yes they are getting old.
The quadro series is better (no FX) as they are Fermi cards. Some of the new top of the range Geforce also seem to work fine.
But if money is not a problem then go with the Quadro 6000.

I just dropped 1,100 on two GTX 580s. That's over 1,000 GPU cores with 3 gigs of memory in total to use. I hope to post some tests. I was really interested in a 590 but the 1.5 gig limit is a downer. I personally think the quadro's are over priced and under performaning.

There's a guy in the forums who has 9xGTX580's using a Cubix GPU expander.

          Hey Metzger,
let us know how you cards perform.

          Thanks.

            580GTX are really powerfull !
I've 9 of them with 1,5go each one.
my setup is 2 cubix + some node wich work in DR mode.

            with a Cubix 2 and a Cubix 4, my workstation compute with 6 580GTX.
But Cubix are loud, and the only way i find to work with is to watercool the GPU to remove the CUBIX FAN .

if you can buy a 3gigs 580 and add some watercooling, you will be very happy !
more than with a Quadro because you save money .
this money is enought to buy the next new GPU gen wich will out perform the current quadro 6000

but if you have enough money, go with tesla on cubix and a 580 or a quadro6000 for the viewport and rendering help

            hope it's help

I got my two little 580's but I am having hard time finding the right cables to power everything in a Mac Pro. Hopefully tomorrow I get it working..
