  • render element manager

Large scenes with multiple render elements, ID mattes, etc. can be time consuming to manage with out a better render element and ID matte manager. How is everyone else dealing?

We were using a spreadsheet doc in our project folder. ID's are assigned in the model/rig file. Those are referenced in, so the ID's come with them. We save a "preset" render elements collection during initial setup of lighting on a project, and other lighters either work from a master lighting scene file, or load that in. IDs are not allowed to change through the pipe.

we were using a script to automatically apply them, but gave up on it, since it was too messy. We ended up keeping track of them on a spreadsheet and making sure lighters/lookdev updated the sheet and kept an eye on it.

We are changing our pipe now with some better tracking and xml notes that will contain that data soon. Other ideas are welcome!

Here is a nice little script by djx to easily switch render elements on and off.

Yes, I use this script, it's helpful. I also like that it doesn't delete your render element when you double click it.
