  • Vray Lights in Viewport

    Hi there,

is there any kind of solution to see the vray lights, specs & highlights, shadows etc. in the viewport ?
Just a simple kind of visualization, similar how it works with a maya spotlight or area light.

    thx

Not for the moment, but we might be able to do something for Viewport 2.0 and V-Ray materials.

    Best regards,

YAY if this can be implemented any time soon!
This is one of the biggest requests/wishlist items I'd like as well (right up at the top of the list).

Trying to catch specific hilight points on product shots feels particularly awkward. RT/IPR is great for other things, but still way too slow for light placement. To be honest, it was my main reason for upgrading to 2.0 on the assumption that it was already catered for in 2.0. Currently I'm using blinns and maya pointLights, then replacing them with VR counterparts afterwards, but it's a pain (especially when having to make later adjustments).

Well, support for Viewport 2.0 was added at the last moment, as the Maya API kept changing until the release itself... we certainly plan to do some more work on it.

        Best regards,
        Vlado

As Vlado sad, we try to support the lights with VRayMtl. I think for the standard materials, it's not possible yet. Viewport 2 is at very early stage.
You can try the next nightly which has some basic support for vray lights, maya area and ambient lights.
