  • What exactly are the specular elements

Is there any way to determine what is going to show up in the specular render element? I thought that anything with glossy reflections set lower than 1.0 would be considered specular. That doesnt seem to be the case. If i misunderstood, is there a way to get blurry reflections on their own reflection element without a lot of renderlayers and overrides?

    Thanks for any info

The specular render element only includes hightlights form light sources. It does not include any reflections.

Got it. Its hard to judge in my scene because the only environment element i have is a Dome Light with texture. Is there a way to put blurry reflections on their own reflection RE?

Reflections in general go into the VRayReflections element, glossy or not. If you need just the glossy reflections, but not perfect mirror reflections, then perhaps you can mask them out using object ID or material ID.
