  • best in depth vray 2.0 for maya tutorial

As a new user coming from the mental ray world I'm wondering if there are any in depth videos or books available for purchase on vray 2.0 for maya. I've gone through the digital tutors intro courses for Vray 1.5 (2) and own Chris Nichol's Gnomon Vray for 3DSMax videos. I've also watched aweidenhammer's videos on YouTube. And of course I've done my best to read through the docs.

I feel like I'm piecing a lot together and having good success. But I'm missing more meaty explanations on practical ways to use vray nodes that aren't covered in any of the above other than the docs. When I look through the forums most of the users are so advanced in terms of the discussions that I'm not sure how I can close the gap without some additional understanding.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I'm a little in the same boat as well, stumbling along and also having the same access or own those tutorials too.
I'm basically hoping for a new vray course at fxphd 201/301 level, although I'm a perpetual student there anyway so I'm not waiting to sign up or something like that.
From my point of view I'd like to see an integration class of cg/live action. The thing is, this forum is fantastic, so no matter how simple or fundamental the question, usually someone is willing to chip in and help out.
And as I've found, usually the best way to learn is just to get stuck into a project and forge ahead, learn as you go

I'd recommend the FXPHD course on V-Ray by Daniel Buck, it's more in depth than the Digital Tutors course and will teach you some great tricks. I hope they do a 201/301 course like Rob suggests, maybe something about tweaking for animation rendering and how to avoid flickering etc. But this forum is a fantastic resource too, it's well worth digging through old posts.

      Also, you should buy this:
      http://www.francescolegrenzi.com/blo...vray_guide_eng

Super in-depth tome that's worth every penny. Great for reference, but far too meaty to read the entire thing in one go

Maybe we should have a sticky post listing all the learning resources available for V-Ray for Maya? Would be helpful for newcomers and veterans alike.

Or we could just gather our own resource of tips and tricks right here on the forum. perhaps a sticky thread or something. I mean we all learn new things every day, that makes us more efficient with vray
