  • Just a thougth...are sphereLights slower than rectLights?

    I am just lighting a scene using sphere lights with radius of 25 (10 segments)...since it would not really make a difference i could also use a rectLight with aproximately the same size...
    now the question: Would a rectlight (with same subdivs) be faster to render?

    I don't think there will be much of a difference, but it would be best to test how that works for your particular case.

      Wouldn't the sphere light be wasting a lot of samples in places you don't need them? I suppose the importance sampling bit in vray should take care of that, but I still generally try not to use a sphere light where a plane or spot will suffice.

      Would be curious to know.

        Well i would guess it would be the same speed, but look more noisy with the same amount of subdivs no ? On top it might of course cause more AA samples to be taken due to the higher noise.

          I don't think there will be much difference in the noise levels...

            Hey guys,
            in my particular case the rendertime did not drop dramaticaly...it went from 65 minutes down to 60 minutes but it seemed a very little more noisy (fur rendering)...so i think it doesn't matter whether we use sphere or rect lights...
