  • sss2 shader - vray

    Hi

Does anyone have experience with the sss2 shader in vray 2.0 for maya?
I was playing around with the skin shader and i found out, that you dont have as much control as in mental ray.

I miss the setting for both epidermal and subdermal, also the possibility to just adjust the back scatter and not the generel scatter.

Anyone a good workflow with a convincing resault. I mean I saw a lot of tutorials, but I could not find any with a good final rendering.

Less is more. You don't need to over complicate things in V-Ray. Best to erase old render habits and form new efficient ones.

    This should get you started:

      Hi

      Thanks for your tip
But I still dont see how I get the effect of the 3 different skin layers working together.
Diffuse, which you can use to put on lipstick or whatever..
you have epidermal which is the skin itself, more yellowish. If somebody is dead, you can see the epidermal.
And you have subdermal, where you find the blood running under the skin.

In some areas, the skin is thicker and you can see more blood beneath it, so it is more red.
in some areas, for example around the eye, you have not so much blood under the skin ,so around the eye it looks more yellowish.

I still dont see, how i can get that in Vray. Because there I can only find the diffuse and the Subsurface color to blend together.
But the diffuse should not be the one to blend with.

      Any ideas?

There are different ways to do that, one is to use a blend material to blend between different skin shaders. Another is to use a layered shader in the subsurface color and blend between the textures for the various layers.
