  • nederhorst settings - long rendertime

    Hi

Does anyone have experience with the nederhorst settings.
I found some tutorials about the settings and in gernereal it sounds convincing to me.

But in practice I get a lot of grain, or really long rendertimes.
I have 3 lights and "gi" on.

I have some more experience with mental ray, and it is really easy and quick to get renderings without grain in mental ray.

    Apaptive DMC
In Vray, minsubd to 1 and the max to 100
    Lock threshold to DMC Smapler
    Apadtive amount on 1
Apaptive threshold to 0.05 and lower

but still..a lot of grain in the picture

So I guess the main problem could be the GI settings. ?

no its not gi. When you set your settings to 1/100 you need to raise your light subdivisions high. Keep in mind that the settings you are referring to were written for a different vray then what it is today.

      Hi

Thanks..so it means the nederhorst settings are not working anymore on vray 2.0 for maya?
I can`t control the sampling of the whole scene with just the Apaptive DMC and DMC Sampler?
SO I have to control every light seperatley and can`t do that by Adaptive DMC?

I think if I don't go into detail you may set the sampling to 2/16 or 3/16 and noise threshold of 0.005 and raise all your lights to 128 samples. Same goes for the shaders. After this you may want to raise the global subdivs multiplier to 1.5 or 2 and see if it gives you acceptable time.

            well, what I tried is
            2/16
            noise threshold of 0.005
            lights to 128 samples.
I put the adative amount for DMC on 1
and the Subdiv Multipl on 2
the resault is not convincing for such a long rendertime

I dont know where to find the sample settings for the shaders?
Is it the override I have to switch on?

            For the gi I used
            Irradiance with setting high
            and sceond
            light cache

It will help if you can post (a part of) an image. In general though, I'm afraid your mental ray knowlegde might be more of a hindrance as V-Ray works a bit differently.

                  Best regards,
