I have an environment fog working in Maya set through the Render Settings Environment channel. How do you get a noise or fractal to change the fog? I have tried 2d and 3d textures for he density to no avail. Any ideas?

I have tried a 3d fractal, volume noise in the density slider. It slows the rendering down but there is no change in the volumetric. If I put them in color it works to change the color but not in the density. I have tried scaling up and down the 3d manipulator placement node to no avail. Can you send me a file showing how it works?
