  • Maya Surface Shader

We are trying to have a half dome sphere show up in the background of a rendering. We just want the image to show, not contribute to GI, lighting OR be effected by the sun and its shading or shadows. We normally make a Maya surface shader and it just renders. We've tried a Vraymtl ported into the VrayWrapperMtl's base slot, turned off GI, but the sun is still causing the dome to be shaded and effected by the lighting.

You would need to uncheck - cast/receive shadows in render stats for the sphere, furthermore you probably would have to reverse the normals on the sphere. I typically use vray light material, for such things, you don't need to put a wrapper on it. If you wish for the object not to contribute to gi you need to add vray object properties node to it and uncheck those options there.
