  • There is anyway to avoid the "Translating scene geomertry for Vray"?

    So as the subject said ... there is anyway to avoid that with a model .. I got a pretty heavy model that comes from a CAD ... and it takes at least 2 min more less to translate the model into Vray ...
    it has to do with the Translator Tab in the render settings ... if so can you guys point me out to a place how can I use this in order to make this happening thank you.

    Convert your mesh into proxy.

      Thank You bigbossfr that worked just for the polys though ... but Im using Nurbs as well and it doesnt translate that ....

        the translating message basically means that the geometry is being sent from maya to vray. There is no way around that, every renderer does this, with the exception of those which support rendering of nurbs as actual bsplines (so they don't get tesselated).

        If you wish to use proxy with nurbs you would have to pre-tesselate your nurb geo into poly then export as proxy.

          I recently compared a scene, which is setup completly the same in maya and max. 6700 objects with around 5.3 mio polygons.

          And in Max it prepares 20 seconds faster then in Maya. Total frame time is 36 in Max compared to 55 in Maya. Rendering itself is 27.6 sec in Maya and 27.2 in Max.

          If i click on render a 100 times in Maya i would loose half an hour just for preparing.

            The Maya translation is indeed somewhat slower. However, as I pointed out in a different thread, one of our goals for V-Ray 3.0 is to reduce the time between re-renders as much as possible by caching geometry and whatever else is appropriate.
