  • physical sky: "primary rays off" in Maya

Sorry for this simple question, but I can't find the solution.
How can I turn the "primary rays" of the vray physical sky OFF in Maya. I have to do a rendering of the scene without the sky visiible in the image due to comp reasons but I need the physical sky for the correct lighting.

    thank you very much

Do you mean you want the SUN off? Because the sky doesn't cast direct light, only the sun.
You'll need to clarify; because in your second sentence it sounds like you want the sky background invisible for comp reasons.

If that's all you mean, in the 'environment' drop down in the vray render global, right-click the "background" slot and choose break connection', so that the slot has nothing plugged in (off the top of my head, don't have Maya open right now).

I just don't want to see the sky - the sky should just be black - but without changing the lighting situation. So no changes of the sun or something else

      thanks

Create big sphere around all of ur scene models assign vray mtl light to it and set it to black. Disable all recieve/cast/gi/etc options so its only visible in render. Also disable alpha so u dont get alpha of it.

        This should work just fine.

I'm guessing you want gi/reflections of sky but no sky in render? Not sure I have not used that node yet so I'm in the dark...

        Thanks, bye.

          Hi,
Disconnect the sky from the environment background texture.

Yep, what bigbossfr said - just disconnect the sky environment from the background texture slot in V-Ray settings.

            Best regards,
