We have eyes made with 2 geos: the cornea and the eyeball. The cornea is a vrayMtl set to glass. The other eye geo is a SSS mtl. The problem is that the GI is stopped by the cornea (i.e. it stopped by the refractive material). This can be fixed by turning on refractive caustics in the GI settings, but that's quite expensive. Is there a faster way to get this to work?

eye cornea and GI?

I found one workaround: create>vray>add object properties to geo then turn off "visible in GI"
The drawback is that we use geo cached animation and so would need to add these object properties every time we update the cache.
Is there a way to do something similar on the glass material rather than on the geo?

Sorry if my reply is a bit off, had too much scotch tonigt If you do use gi, you have to use refractive caustics thats just how it works. If you don't use gi, you simply turn on "affect shadows" in refraction part of the material, this will allow the direct light to go through the glass and fake the caustic effect.Dmitry Vinnik

Assuming that it is not possible currently to do this on a material and only on an object basis, here's a wish:
I see that the WrapMtl has options to turn on/off generate GI & receive GI. It would be great if Chaos could add an option here for "visible to GI"
As I said above, this would alleviate a big headache when using geo caches.
