Vray-Pattern

I recently came across an article on Vray-Pattern. Do everyone knows if this is a plugin created by Chaos Group? Does the plugin only works with 3Ds Max? Is there a Maya equivalent?
I appreciate if anyone can provide insight in the matter.

They mentioned that they are working on a Maya version; perhaps it might be good to ask.
