  • Any licencing issues with using Deadline as render manager?

    Hello!

We'll probably (finally) purchase V-Ray for Maya this week. I'm wondering if there are any render slave issues with using Deadline (from Thinkbox Software) as a render manager and not Maya Batch? I know that we had that problem with C4D, since they changed license policy a couple of versions ago, which meant you needed extra licenses when using a renderer that called for the command line version, which Deadline did.

So, anyone that has got experience with V-Ray for Maya and Deadline?

Well, never mind, we bought it anyway =) So we'll find out tomorrow when the dongle arrives if it works or not. I don't really think it will be a problem, but I wanted to make sure, just in case.

I don't think there is anything specific; V-Ray licensing should work in the same way as with backburner/batch render.

      Best regards,
      Vlado

Congrats on your purchase. No, there shouldn't be any license issues. 1 vray seat comes with 10 render licenses. So long as your license manager is running and your machines can point to the license file, it should work. Btw its also recommended by Thinkbox to use mayaBatch as oppose to mayaCmd, for better stability.

We are using Deadline over here as well and there is absolutely no problem in conjunction with vray.
VRays licensing model is one of the best working systems I know of....while 90% of all the other stuff is usually a pain in the butt....
