  • Tips for making VRayEnvironmentFog fadeout faster?

    Hi there,

Usually I have no problem with VRayFog as I turn up the subdivs to 50 or so and it renders, clean and fast and am very happy with it.

However if I turn on "Multiply by Density" or "Add density to falloff" and put something in the fade out radius, the fog becomes incredibly slow. What's more is that is seems to ignore sampling as with 1-100 dmc settings and a noise threshold of 1, the fog renders perfectly smooth.

Are there any tricks I can do to get it go faster when in this mode?

Yes, you can increase the "step size" parameter. When you turn on the fade out, the fog switches from stochastic sampling to raymarching, so the normal subdivs won't matter anymore.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Ahhh perfect, I saw this before in the manual and tutorials (Step size) but I never realised when it was applicable or that fog actually switched sampling techniques. Everything makes sense now - thanks for replying Vlado.
