  • V-Ray Override Mtl

    Hi,

In 3ds Max there is a handy option to turn on "Override Mtl" in the global switches. This allows you to override the scene materials when rendering, without the need to change each mtl separately.
I was wondering if something like this is available for Maya?
I couldn't find it in the help files.

There isn't an option for this in V-Ray for Maya, but you can use a separate render layer to assign the same material to everything.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

I really wish that there was such option though. Using render layer overrides are not ideal. Things like displacements, will not be preserved. In complicated scenes the layer overrides may also not work (maya's fault) so vray internal option would be much preferred.

Well, you can easily script it with a post-translate Python callback... someone asked for this a while back and posted the script here.

Vlado is right. My tool have this option (DeeX VRay Arsenal) and i use Post translate Python.
I have implemented the option to :
            - render with a lambert and preserve displace/bump/normal
            - render with a custom material name and preserve displace/bump/normal

Yeah we got that also. The problem is, implementation. I wish this was a part of vray, rather then some custom studio script. The unified implementation will allow people to wrap stuff around it not to mention ease of workflow.
