  • Vray hair material with Yeti

Ok. So I'm doing some fur tests with yeti. I'm running into some problems. They seem like v-ray problems though.

Here's the deal. We've got this furry critter. When using the VrayHairMtl3 (as opposed to a regular shader) the colors seem to get more saturated, the shadows seems to get brighter and when we turn on the reflection the hair gets dark all over the tips.

Is there a trick to working with the VrayHairMtl3 that I don't know about?

    Please advise.
    Thanks!

Im guessing here, but you may need to pass tip transparency from hair sampler to reflection amount to terminate reflection at the tips accordingly.

How do you turn on reflections in the hair material?

@Vlado - Well, in the VrayhairMTR3 we turn up the "Primary Specular" color to white, and turn up the primary amount. The fur also acts the same with a regular shader strangely enough and the reflection on that material is turned up in the usual way.
@Morbid Angel - That totally makes sense. I'm going to try that and see what happens. Sounds like a good solution though. Thanks!

Can you attach a sample scene to see what's going on ?

Well actually I think figured it out.

I hadn't noticed this before but when you turn up the reflection or spec on an object it's diffuse pass gets darker? I figured this is because if you turn up the reflection to 50% then the diffuse is receiving 50% less light so it gets 50% darker? Does that make sense?

I attached a photo comparing two shots.

Yes, the components are adjusted internally so that they always sum up to white in order for the shader to be energy-conserving.
