  • Vray3Hair material

Can you apply the vray 3hair material to objects other than hair? I felt like I was getting some strange results from my hair in a scene, so I applied the hair shader to the model directly and it looks very strange indeed. I turned off all diffuse color, and all specular/reflection of any kind but it still looks very wrong. The shadows are sharp, there are strange gradients of darker color at random places. I've attached a picture to give you an example of what it looks like. Perhaps though this is how it will look on anything other than a hair object.

You certainly can do that, but what will come out is not well defined. The shader needs to know the hair direction and regular surfaces don't have one, so the shader just picks some more or less random value. The shader will work as intended only on V-Ray hair primitives (either VRayFur, Maya hair, Yeti, or Shave&Haircut).

    Best regards,
