I just tested it with latest nightly and I get the exact same result as post #15. That still does not worjk for me. Most obviously: glossiness maps are not there and gamma is incorrect.
In max I use the vrayRT exporting method and I import in maya by creating a new vrmat and selecting the right vrscene and material url in the scene.
I notice that the other method of importing in maya (by create=>vray=>import V-Ray material from file) seems to be importing more nodes than before as far as I remember.
you can see an example of the same material in max and maya. Some nodes are missing and some other have very different colors. I got 6 textures in max and maya end up with only 2 of them.

Hi Vlado,
Can you tell me if that's a feature you are working on right now or is it only in the queue for later? I ask because I am working right now on project requiring this to work, but if it can't be done in the near future I will have to resort to recreating my whole shading network manually in maya. I still have a few weeks ahead.

I found out that when I import a shadere from max with create material from file in maya, vray create two vrayPluginNodeTex for each texture slot from max called TexOuput and Texcombine color. The goal of this is to recreate the effect of combining a color from the color swatch in max (diffuse color for example) with a texture in the diffuse texture slot for example. But the node TexCombineColor does not output anything but black. I can replace those 2 nodes with a layered texture node in maya to get the same effect as in max.
I don't know if the vrmat is doing something similar in the background, that would explain why the glossiness maps are not appearing....
