  • Maya fur system?

    Hi,
I've read everywhere that v-ray can't render maya hair system.
It works fine with maya n-hair but not with fur?

    What should be my workflow?

If true any other way to get fur in vray? Just v-ray fur?

    Thanks

You could use VRayFur, Maya hair, Yeti or Shave&Haircut.

We have that as a feature request into our system but we are not able to give any time frame for its implementation.

We do have a fur styler plugin in development, but I'm not sure how useful it is yet.

Having worked now with the X-Gen "API" for a while now, I'm having some doubts about that statement. We will render it for sure, as best as we can manage with the tools that we are given. But it looks to me that 3rd party solutions like Yeti might be more practical.

that sounds like the given "API" does not support what you need..?
maybe we should knock on Autodesks door if something is missing...

or do you think the hair/fur creation process is to complicated..?

It's just a separate system that's glued on top of Maya in some very hacky way. It's not properly integrated as part of Maya at all and we have to jump through hoops to get the render data. Extremely inconvenient and prone to errors.

Noooo! That's bad news! Shave doesn't properly support hair3 due to a curve normal flipping issue that joe isn't interested in since he supplies his own shader, and we can't get yeti in the us because of joes patent dispute and related settlement with yeti when they got scared off by the xgen lawsuit.

I was really hoping that xgen would fill in the gap for maya fur and hair and vray.
