  • Adaptive min samples

    Heya

I've finally decided to crush on that slider and find out what does it actually do. And no matter what I type in, what AA threshold I set, what dmc amount /threshold I set. No matter what where and however I type in I cant get to see any change in render when I edit this amount to any other than 8... so what is it for and can I see an image example of before after possibly?

Here are two images rendered with Fixed AA, and 8 subdivs for VRayDirt.

Min. samples = 2; as you can see this is somewhat less accurate around the base of the teapot as there are shading points where V-Ray would just take 2 samples and stop because they both happen to hit something.

Min. samples = 8; here the result is more accurate as V-Ray will collect more data before deciding whether to stop sampling.

Ok I got it to work. But then its backwards isnt it?! The Adaptive Min Samples is actually Adaptive MAX samples. The min samples are the shader samples - 8 the max samples are Adaptive Min Samples. AHhhhh uhhhhhhh ! I was setting up stuff in my scenes backwards!

P.S. Still I cant get it to clean up my noise I've attached scene. I set it up to 512 hoping that Dirt shader will use as many samples as he need to clean up the noise but it fails. testMinSample_01.zip

It is really minimum the number of samples that are taken before the adaptive logic kicks in. The shader subdivs determine the maximum.

Will take a look at the scene a bit later.
