  • Vray fur inside a vray Proxy instance?

I noticed I couldn't get the Vray fur to render inside of a Vrayproxy.

I assume this is because the vrayfur node handles the generation of the vray fur which is not handed off with the geometry data given to the vray proxy (vraymesh) node.

Since vray mesh/proxy can handle a lot of data I figured I'd subD the thing and convert the hairs into little mesh hairs. But... I don't see a way to do that in maya like in Max.

    Any ideas?

    Hi,

    Which V-ray version is this?
Try to use the Maya Duplicate Special (instance mode) to clone your proxy objects and then add a Fur node.

Can you post an example scene to see the result you get?

      [2014/Mar/5|12:55:45] V-Ray: V-Ray for Maya version 2.45.01, revision 24241 from Feb 26 2014, 06:27:25
      [2014/Mar/5|12:55:45] V-Ray: V-Ray core version is 2.00.02

But I think the issue is that the Vray fur node can't be handed to a proxy mesh. In the viewport if I use the bounding box then the vray fur is applied to the proxy bounding box.

So I am trying to see if I can somehow convert the Vray fur into actual geometry that would be baked into the vray proxy mesh object, This way it is just like the polygon geo that gets handed to the vrmesh.

Yes, but when you render, it should be similar to the original geometry. Im attaching an example image in order to avoid any misunderstood about the setup.

Unfortunately this is not possible. The fur is generated only during render time.

Oh, ok but then would the fur be applied to every instance of a vray proxymesh? I am using particles to place many instances. I guess I'll test it to see if it can work. That is my main issue, is if the instanced proxymesh (nParticles being used to place the instanced vrayProxyMesh). Will the vray fur be applied to each instance?

          Testing now.

Not at the moment, but I've made a note to fix this.
