  • Can 2 versions of V-Ray be installed at the same time?

We're using V-Ray 2.4 for Maya and a new artist is experienced with 3DS Max.

Can V-Ray 3 for 3DS Max be installed on the same computer the Maya version is installed?

Are the new network render nodes backwards compatible with V-Ray 2.4 for Maya or will those render slaves need to remain installed to network render with Maya?

    Hello Bart247,

Yes, you can have V-Ray for Max and V-Ray for Maya installed on a same PC.
The new Render nodes are actually licenses that are used from V-Ray 3 (Max and Maya when it is released) for any type of rendering.
When you render with V-Ray 2.4 for Maya you will need to use your old set up and the same licenses as before.
To render with V-Ray 3.0 for Max you will need to set up your machines accordingly which will not affect any set up on the same machines for V-Ray 2.4 Maya.
If you need additional info on the new Render node licenses and how they are used please drop us an email to support@chaosgroup.com
