  • Render is perfect... just after pre pass.

    Hi,
I am rendering a scene, and am having issues to make it photo-realistic. In the attached image, you can see the right side is perfect (after pre pass, Irradiance + Light Cache, but before actual render), and the left side is when the sun is being rendered after prepass, and it immediately gives an unrealistic result.

Any suggestion what I should change in the scene to obtain the result at the right after full render ?
The scene has a physical sun, physical sky, physical camera, Gamma 2.2 and textures with Gamma 2.2.

    Thanks !

    Hi,

Try to check the option "Show direct light" available in the Irradiance map parameters section.
Do you use the default values in the "Color mapping" rollout?

The color mapping is the standard + Gamma 2.2, Don't affect colours and Affect background clicked.
And with your setting, the result is exactly the same.

I am looking for a more "dawn"-type effect.
      Thanks !

Hmm, well if you want it to look more like the right side - I'd remove the sunlight/sky and use a dome light for more ambient lighting. Or just lower the sunlight more. And then also adjusting your physical camera so that less light is let in since it looks like it's so bright that it's burning out your character's foreheads.

On the right you're looking at just the GI part of a GI+lighting combination.

As said before if you're looking for a dawn look use a dome light or a sky map for GI and a not so strong directional light.

The part on the right of your image wouldn't be correct for a photo-realistic image as the bounce light from the sun is still in there; very visible on the FG character where you see the bright edges on his shirt and the bounced light on his head.

"Show direct light" direct light would show you the direct light during the GI calculation. It was still being included before, just not shown.

Thanks for your answers. Will see how to best tune the Dome light to have this cloudy sky/dawn effect. Cheer !
