I must have used VRayBump2Normal in every project I worked on back when I was using Max full time and now I'm starting to miss it for quick LookDev setups. Is there any chance there is a way I can access this great tool from Max in Maya using Vray 2.45?

Normal maps are somewhat faster to calculate (just one texture read), as the normal value is directly taken from the texture instead of being computed from height values. However this advantage goes away if you derive them from height maps on the fly anyways.
In terms of visual effect, they both produce similar results.

Hi Vlado
I am trying to reproduce this great scratch metal shader tutorial in Maya using normal map :
http://viscorbel.com/microscratches-...vray-tutorial/
but I dont find a way of controlling the strength on the normal map in Maya like the author describes in 3d max, am I missing something ?
Thanks.

So here is render following the tutorial from the Alex's link, as you can see the scratches do not radiate from the reflection/light source but appear to be pinched. I have made a simple scene on the right of the image to illustrate the effect. Surely that cant be right or am i missing something, thanks in advance
