  • single object in a UV pass with an extra Tex render element.

I was wondering if there is a way to create a UV pass render element of just one object (or material) within an extra tex render element?

For example - say I have a render of a TV and I only want the screen of the TV to have a UV pass.

I can think of easy work-arounds in comp (having an ID of the screen etc...). But I just wanted to know if I am missing a more elegant approach?

    Many thanks.

have a look here, you can employ the same method to apply any texture to any part of your geometry while keeping the rest black or whatever else color.

As a maya noob, does the "sets" functionality not allow for something like this or would you need numerous bits of logic to assign all your passes?

actually in the new vray builds extra tex has a set function which you can connect your exclude objects to.

Fantastic - thanks for your help. It's good to know its now in the latest builds. I think it will definitely come in handy very often.

I had a quick look at the Switch/Shape method - seems like it would work. But i think in comparison it is easier and more flexible for comp to fix this issue with an ID. Having said that I am sure there are more complex situations where the switch/shapes technique could come in handy.

          Many thanks
