  • Dumb question - result affect / exclude sets seem grayed out in dirt in 2.45.x

    Hi Folks,

Again I'm new to maya so please excuse this if it's a dumb question. With the dirt shader in maya 2.45x I'm trying to get result affect and exclude to behave for a contact shadow pass but I can't seem to get these two options to behave. I presume they're based around maya sets and I was trying to make a set and use the connection editor to link the two but no dice. Anyone any thoughts?

    Cheers!

    John

Yes, the default Maya UI for sets connection is just useless and we try to improve it in 3.0. You must use the set editor or a mel script.

That's kind of what I'm struggling with - if I make a set of objects (say I want to use this for result affect) and then open the set editor from "window > relationship editors > sets" how can I connect a set for one of the vray dirt parameters in vray 2.4x?

      Thanks for any pointers!

You can use the Connection Editor to connect some parameter of the Set node (I usually use the memberWireframeColor one) to the resultAffect input of the VRayDirt node.
