  • light subdivisions on a per object basis?

Is it possible to increase light subdivisions on just one object in my scene.

I have a Light Dome set to 64 subdivisions which renders my scene perfectly and keeps render times down except for one wall in the background where the shadows casting on it through a tree are very noisy. I can solve this by increasing the subdivs to 256, even 128, but It would be great if I could only have the wall sampled at that increased setting.

This is not possible for the moment; however you can instead try to put more AA subdivs into it - the AA will put more samples in the problem areas while keeping the rest of the scene sampled relatively low.

    Best regards,

Is this done by adding vray object properties to the mesh in question?
I only see a GI subdivs Mult. in that node.

You could add more AA samples by increasing Max Subdivs value from Image Sampler Rollout.
Please note that the Max Subdivs depends on Threshold value, so this parameter should be also changed.

Another option would be to add a separate DomeLight with higher number of subdivisions only for the objects which requires more samples.
