  • Equivalent Fall off map from Max to Maya

    Hi everybody ,
Lately I have come across the amazing Grant Warwick mastering Vray. Even though he is using 3DsMax you can easily translate it to maya. But I came across a problem. In a section Grant is using a fall off map applied at the reflection slot to create a custom fresnel effect. From what I have understood the fall off map in max is the equivalent of a ramp with a sampler info facing ratio connected to the VCoordinates of the ramp. There is not much to understand so far cause when the ramp is going from black to white. But Grant actually to give color to the reflection split the fall off map into "RGB" and he He can control the each of those individually. How can you archive this in maya? I think the answer should be pretty simple but human tends to make thing difficult and can get it to work . Any help would be much appreciated.
You could find the lesson on this link

Is the free lesson number 4 part 1 at minute 6:30
    Regards

You can use the exact same node as he is using in Maya (but there is a bad UI for it).

Create V-Ray texture from plugin. From memory it will be called falloff texture or something similar.

I am not sure if Falloff texture from VrayPlugin in Maya have option to change the R,G,B curves separately.
However the same control could be derived from remapColor-texture. Just pipe the output color from ramp texture as input for remapColor-tex and you could control Red / Green / Blue color curves independently.

Out of interest, what does the samplerInfo node do in your shader network, Svetlozar?

In this particular case the samplerinfo node was used to derive the information about the surface points location relative to the camera.
Samplerinfo Facing ratio was connected to the Ramp V Coordinate

The samplerinfo is There to create tge fresnel effect. The facing ratio is connected to the V coordinates
