  • Rendering out Flake map

    Heya

Is it possible to render out vray flakes as flat BW texture so I can use it in photoshop for certain things... I think I could get it nicely to work for some effects with its flake shapes and so on.

    Hello,

You can assign the material to a plane and render it from the top view. Is this working for your case?

    Best regards,

Vray Flakes is actually a material and as a such Maya can not directly render it to a texture.
In addition to to what Georgi suggested you could also use Vray Texture Backing engine in order to bake this material to a texture.
Just assign VrayFlakesMtl to a object with UV-coordinates, it could be plane, sphere anything else, set all Environment overrides to white color, then set Baking Engine to Texture Baking, select the object and hit render.

Edit: Make sure that there is no lights in the scene and the default lights are OFF, otherwise you will get some highlights like the image above:

        Hey Svetlozar

Thanks for the baking idea! I did not think of it at all. Your renders appear to produce the effect I'm sort off after. Gotta sit it and test it myself but so far it looks promising!

georgi - I did think of that but then I would have some light directions, hotspots and so on. I'm after couple of things of which some will be covered by Svetlozar reply. I want to get out of it stuff like. Glossy values, height values and so on. Will see how much can I get away with using Svetlazor method and then how well I can implement it in post. Also there used to be a post process that allow me to change textures with uvw and so on so I'll look in to relighting options in post. Anyway thanks!

        Thanks :- )
