  • Avoid fur intersecting with mesh

    Hi,
I have a simple mesh with fur on it, however the fur is intersecting the mesh itself:

Is there a way to avoid that the fur is intersecting any mesh on the scene so that it is surrounding it ?

    Thanks

Nope; you can maybe use the V-Ray fur styler to bend the fur away. This may work for static scenes, but unfortunately it won't work for animation.

The other approach is to use a fur solution that supports dynamics and collision objects like Hair&Fur or Ornatrix or HairFarm.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Thanks Vlado. The tools you name seem all to be for 3dsmax. Would you have any suggestion for maya plugins ?

Maya hair is an obvious and easy choice; Shave&Haircut is another, and if you are outside the US, there is also Yeti.

Thanks. VRay 3.0 doesn't seem to be able to render maya fur (nHair is ok though). Shave&Haircut doesn't seem Vray 3.0 compatible yet.

You may need to ask for custom build from shave&haircut that can support v3.

It is why I said Maya hair (and not fur)

<shrug> Joe Alter has had the code for ages, you can probably ask to see what's the status of this.

In Maya 2015, there is X-Gen, yes.
