  • Proxies for Vray?

I am in the process of making several forest scenes for a project. What is the most efficient method of creating several (hundreds) rocks, plants, trees without affecting render time too much?

Are there any solid tutorials covering this topic?

It depends. With huge scenes, the limiting factor is often the memory in which case VRay proxies can help a lot. If you have a lot of memory and a lot of random rays (for example GI, reflections, etc), it may be faster to directly render the scene. But there are other consideration like time for scene export. A lot of users seems to prefer using proxies just because it's more convenient (you can open the Maya scene faster, have faster viewport, etc)
