  • Bake multiple meshes to UDIM

    Hi!

I want to bake a vray dirt texture to multiples UV Tiles. I am using vray 3 for Maya on mac. I have enabled UDIM baking. My model consistes of multiple meshes and it seems like each mesh get a separate texture per uv tile. Is there a way to make vray render one texture per tile and not create a new texture per mesh.

    BR,
    Johan

I think it's somewhere in the todo list...

      Ok,

Do you have any idea of when it might be implemented?
      Thanks!

Are the UV spaces of the different meshes overlapping or not?

        Best regards,

They are not overlapping, and they are layed out spanning multiple uv tiles.

This is something we'd love to see too - our pipeline always uses multiple UV tiles with no overlapping meshes, so being able to bake them all to one file would be great - currently we need to combine meshes somehow before baking, which isn't always practical!

I have written a script that merges the baked textures (based on the UDIM) in nuke, but it would be a time saver to do it directly out of Maya.

Is it not just a matter of renaming the files with the UDIM tiles? Why would you need Nuke for that?

Since my model is made up by several meshes, I get a new texture per mesh and uv tile. I use nuke to merge all texture that should belong to the same uv tile. I could do like Oliver and merge all meshes and then bake, but it would be nice to keep the mesh separate and still get the one texture per uv tile.

Ah, so several distinct objects can be in the same UV tile?
