  • Set up a small renderfarm

Hey, I want to create a small renderfarm and have a question. My current setup is a normal dual xeon workstation attached to a synology NAS.
To get a rendermanager i.e. deadline running I need an extra computer or something like that. I can't use my NAS for this case alone because I can't install the mongo database.... I can only install the repository on the NAS and thats not enough because I want to separate the complete data part of the NAS from the lic and the database/repository stuff.
My idea now is to buy a mac mini for deadline (repository and database) and plug the two dongles with my vray and phoenix lics into it. Then I want to buy a rendermachine or more than one and connect the NAS, my workstation, the rendermachine(s) and my macbook with an hub that the rendermachine(s) and the workstation have access to the NAS and the lics/database/repository.

Is this a good plan for the connections and lics or are there any particular restrictions or (speed)problems with this kind of setup?
    Thank you in advance!

Your other workstations I assume will be windows based? I'd stay away from combining mac and pc, there could be problems (I'm not sure though) best to have all pcs. You can have deadline installed on your main workstation it should be just fine. Remember that besides additional render machines you will need additional deadline and vray render licenses.

Nas should only be used to access files, and read/write.
