  • car paint flake weirdness

    hello,

    I am testing the vray car paint material, trying to make a simple silver, and am getting some funkiness with the flake.

    I want it to falloff to nothing, and be directional. I would expect it to look like this;

    (bright towards the light, then the flake falls off to nothing)

    Instead the flake is turning black when not facing into light like this;

    and here are my parameters;

    anyone know why the flake might be turning black like this?

    Any help is appreciated

      There is nothing from them to reflect in that direction...

        exactly, which is why i think they should dissappear not turn black. right? Real car paints flake is super bright towards light but falls off to nothing as it faces away it doesn't just go black.

          No. Flakes don't disappear, they are there all the time.

          No. The flakes are still there and they still reflect whatever is in the reflection direction they are facing.

            hmmmmmm, perhaps I am miss communicating.

            real world examples of flake dissappearing/ falling off nicely as it falls off, not turning black. I know it is still there, just as the dark side of the moon is still there
