I'd happily shoot hdri's with charts, take lux readings and put in some reference objects to try and get some good recreations of environments.

I figure we'd need to have some different test environments to show off different features of materials - for example a shader with very soft speculars / reflections wouldn't really read in ganzfield lighting or even an overcast day. It'd be good to have a few interiors with different size lights and intensities that'd give the shader more input to shine in.
I love this idea! Start a new thread? I just received an xrite color chart as well as the light tent. Started by trying to shoot an HDRI from inside the tent to use in vray for lighting. Still much to tweak to make sure aspects of the scene and references are as accurate as possible.

I might need a mini tripod and try to use my nodal ninja to get a more seamless pano.

We could do a tiny google group or some such? Having a forum definitely helps keep track of things!

Google+ or something like that can help, yes. I am really interested in this, most of the equipment already is here.
