  • Making an object go transparent at the edges regardless of camera angle?

    Hi Guys,

The problem i'm trying to solve is blending terrain geometry into a vray dome without a visible seam. So i'm wondering if there is a way to make a vray material fade to transparent at the edges of an object no matter what direction it's facing toward camera. Then my problem is potentially solved.

Alternatively does vray support vertex transparency maybe? (not finding anything about it in searches) I may be able to use that at the edges of my terrain geo to remove any seam as well.

    Thanks for any pointers!

You can bake a curve around your borders, make geo out of it and then use distance texture to produce a gradient where that curve/geometry is. You can then map that as opacity.

Sorry just realized this is a Maya thread, my mistake ignore.

If i understand your problem correctly, Gradient Edge might be a solution. It creates a gradient out from edges, you could use this as a mask in the opacity slot.
