  • Getting HDR env reflections to pass thru room geo?

Hope I can explain this clearly...

We have an HDRI attached to a DomeLight with affect diffuse off so it only affects reflections. There is also a geo for a room that block the sun light coming in through the windows (the geo has matte using objectProperties, since we are just rendering the characters in the room and comping that over the rendered room, so it's only purpose is to block the sun light properly as it comes thru the windows).

The problem is that this geo also blocks the environment reflections from the domeLight. We can't turn off "cast shadows" on the geo since we want those shadows for the light. So is there a way to have the HDR reflections pass through that geo?

    try with trace sets.

Do you mean a reflection Exclude List in the objectProperties?

The trace sets can include/exclude a light from being reflected and/or refracted off of a piece of geometry. You might wanna just use the light and shadow linking in maya and break both links between the dome light and your blocker geo.
