  • set number of CPU threads used for RT CPU?

    Hi,

Echoing on this thread (http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...307#post686307), is there a way to set the number of threads being used for RT CPU in Maya? i.e. preserving some CPU threads for better UI and viewport interaction? I tried using Max render threads in the "Settings" tab (SP3 Render Settings window) but it seems only affects the production rendering.

    Thanks.

Hm, good point; the only way I can think of right now is to run the RT render server manually with the -numThreads command line option. But we should do this internally...

    Best regards,

Indeed Vlado. Would be great if it is exposed directly in UI...

It is, under Settings > advanced > max render threads, but it is designed to affect the production renderer. Maybe if we make it to also affect the render server for RT. I'll put a note in our system on this.

Yeah, Yolov. We were referring to the Max render threads for RT CPU as that feature for production renderer is already available.
To me, it makes more sense to have Max render threads UI exposed separately in the IPR tab so I don't have to switch back to the Settings tab for that. Typically, I would reserve more threads for RT CPU as I will be tweaking stuff in UI frequently. And for production rendering, I would go full on with threads. As far as I know, IPR and production rendering can be set of different CPU thread number in both PRMan and Arnold...

OK, we'll keep that in mind.
