  • Render Mask?

I've just tried the render mask feature to get out of a tight spot, using a geometry set to just render a single object in the scene

Interestingly, the render buffer isn't cleared between frames so in a batch render I get that 70's music video effect where every frame builds upon the last, and objects leave trails around the screen. Is this intended behaviour?

No, it is not, it should automatically clear in animation. Does forcing it with the "Clear frame buffers" works? It's in render settings > common tab > render view section.

Thanks. I just tried it and it did not appear to help.

This time I used an animated rotoshape from Nuke as a texture mask but the problem persists. If it makes a difference I'm creating the scenes in OS X and rendering on Linux.

        No it doesn't, unfortunately
I'll log it as a bug and we'll fix it. Thanks for the input and I apologize for the inconvenience.

Thanks, I'm able to use the same matte in Nuke to trim away the trails so we can get by for the moment.

One last thing, though - what VRay and Maya versions are you using?

                Hello!
I couldn't reproduce the issue on my system. Is it possible to attach a simple scene with the problem, so we can try to reproduce it?
                Thanks in advance!

Hi Ivan, sorry I haven't been able to reproduce this yet because I've been working on a different project and possibly because I'm not using the same render farm at the moment. I should be able to try again in a couple of weeks.

I'm bumping up this old thread. Rendermask seems to behave as described below when doing animations (copied the very first post in this topic). Using Maya 2019.3.1 and Vray 4.30.02. Is it just me again ? I cannot imagine people are not using this feature in Maya animations.

Hey waaazoo is this with V-Ray Standalone or with a maya batch render?

Thanks for confirming. There's an issue with Standalone, but it should work fine from Maya. If that's an option - try rendering from Maya (either from the GUI or with maya batch). I'll bump up the priority of the Standalone issue.
