  • Color Mapping not working?

I've never been convinced that I've got linear workflow to work properly in Vray. Now I can't seem to get it to have any effect at all.

I'll attach a scene. In it I've got a room with with door thats being illuminated by a sun/sky and viewed through a physical camera. There is one material "grey" which is gamma corrected to 0.45

I've set color mapping to "linear multiply", Dark to 1, bright to 1 and gamma to 2.2.

    Convert to srgb is on.

But, it doesn't seem to make any difference to the image. I can set the color mapping values to anything I like, even crazy figures like gamma 20 and it looks exactly the same.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance

Changing gamma while having 'Dont affect colors, only adaptation' wont give you any gamma difference in the image. It will only calculate the noise at a different gamma (might be good if you're having trouble with noise in shadows, etc). But most of the time just leave it at 2.2.

Apart from that it looks correct. You might wanna use the Vray Frame Buffer however, and have sRGB checked there.
You got a very extreme lighting scenario with a dark interior and a very bright outside blown out by the sun. Adding a sky portal for the window could help to get some extra light calculations inside the room if thats why you're worried that you didnt get the linear workflow done correctly.

      Cheers Algehov,

Is it correct to set it to 'Dont affect colors, only adaptation'? That's what the instructions I've found seem to say. (but they also seem to specify settings for gamma, bright and dark, which seems a bit redundant)

        Yup, thats correct!
To get vray to calculate on the the noise for sRgb and not linear, bright and dark should be set to 1, and gamma to 2.2.
Changing the gamma, bright and dark multiplier is only needed if you want it to calculate on a different color curve.

Having the option to do a custom curve or adding a 2d LUT (only changing intensity and not individual rgb values) here would be great tho Vlado!
As you usually CC your image abit in the end, which can easly result in that you enhance the noise in the image. Adding a curve similar to how you wanna CC it afterwards, and have Vray calculate the samples on that would be awesome.
