  • VrayMtl not showing color in VP2

I'm trying to track down a strange thing. One on of our machines, VrayMtl shaders don't show their color channels in the viewport. So simple plane, assign VrayMtl, turn the color magenta and it stays gray. Same scene on a different machine the plane shows magenta. Use default material is not on. I can add a Blinn or whatever and the color works. Even VrayLightMtl works fine. But the VrayMtl doesn't.

    Any thoughts?

        Can you post a screenshot?
Is this viewport 2.0 or the legacy viewport?
The VRayMtl should show in viewport 2.0 running on OpenGL (see the maya display seetings in settings/preferences) when textured view is enabled (at least for now that's how we got things to show up there).

For a couple of nightlies the DX implementation is not working for the VP2. Even the latest nightly 25.5.2016

Basically if you assign a Mtl like VrayMtl to the object it renderes transparent or flat like a surface shader. Hope Dev team will fix it soon

          EDIT:
it seems that bug which i just mentioned and thought it might have something to do with the corestudio's problem has been fixed with latest nightly from 26.5.
Check it out. I had issues with displaying texturs on the vray materials but now its solved.

right, that's the thing. It's just this machine that I'm trying to troubleshoot. Other boxes show textures just fine, so I feel like it's a setting someplace on this machine but we can't figure it out. But the weird thing is it's just VrayMtl.

Do you have the same problem with other vray materials?

i haven't tested them all, but for instance VrayLightMtl shows textures just fine

                  Then it's a "no"
Well, basically we draw vray lights and materials in viewport 2.0 with openGL and when textured view is enabled, that's one thing you can check and if you're using directX - switch to openGL.
Also check if you have enabled the "use default material" option for the viewport and disable it. It's right after wireframe and smooth shaded.

ah, sorry for the confusion. This is a Mac, and it was set to "OpenGL Core Profile", so I thought it already was. Changing to straight "OpenGL" looks like it's fixed. Thanks!

That should be it, yes. Thanks for getting back to us on this.
